CHRISTINE BRIGGS
(9/25/1937 - 3/18/2010)



Christine Briggs, 72, of Memphis, Missouri passed away on the evening of March 18, 2010, at the Scotland County Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Missouri.

The Daughter of O.M. “Jack” and Fern (Davis) Orton, she was born on September 25,1937 in Scotland County, Missouri. She was the third of five children and attended Memphis High School. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Memphis.

Christine and Richard K. Briggs were married on June 5, 1955 at the Oakridge Baptist Church by Reverend J. M. Dawkins, Christine’s grandfather, and to this union two children were born, Nancy and Keith.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her sisters, Doris and Jaclyn; and one brother, John Orton.

Survivors include her husband, Richard Briggs of Memphis, Missouri; her daughter, Nancy Hirner of Memphis, Missouri; her son, Keith Briggs of Kansas City, Missouri; her granddaughter, Anna Hirner of Memphis, Missouri; one brother, Jim Orton and his wife of Taylor, Missouri along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church of Memphis or the Dover Cemetery Association and can be left at or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison, Memphis, Missouri 63555.

Funeral services were held on Monday, March 22, 2010 at the First Baptist Church in Memphis with Pastor Dan Hite Officiating. Interment followed in the Dover Cemetery west of Memphis.

Musicians were Pam Blaine organist and Schelle Cooley vocalist. Pallbearers were Boyd Baker, Neal Baker, Bruce Baker, Richard Baker, Neal Max Baker and Phil Holt.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Payne Funeral Chapel in Memphis.
