RELTA CAVELL SCOTT
(9/6/1922 - 4/23/2010)



Relta Cavell Scott, 87, of Edina, Missouri, passed away Friday, April 23, 2010, at her residence east of Baring, Missouri.

Relta was born near Knox City, Missouri, on September 6, 1922, the daughter of John Wiley and Nora Alice Hubble Miller.

She was raised near Knox City, Missouri and attended the Brushy Rural School before graduating from the Knox City High School in the Class of 1941.

On September 27, 1941, in Palmyra, Missouri, Relta married Melvin Leland “Sam” Scott before he left to serve his country in World War II.

After Sam was injured he returned and they moved near Rutledge, in Scotland County, Missouri, where they farmed for ten years before moving to their present farm east of Baring, Missouri, in 1955.

Relta is a member of the Baring Community Church, where she was very active making cookies and cinnamon rolls for their gatherings. She also had worked elections in the county and enjoyed the farm life, gardening, flowers but most of all she loved her church and family.

Relta is survived by her son, James Scott of Edina, Missouri; two daughters, Mary Alice and her husband Vance Myers of Kirksville, Missouri and Linda Carol and her husband J.D. Rogers of Jefferson City, Missouri; a sister, Betty Jo Chapman of Albers, Illinois; five grand children, Sheryl Myers of Kirksville, Missouri, Alan and his wife Theresa Myers of Kirksville, Missouri, Laura and her husband Joe Shoop of Kirksville, Missouri, Amy and her husband Chris Rogers of Springfield, Missouri, and Andrew and his wife Christina Rogers of Jefferson City, Missouri; nine great grandchildren, Scott and Shane Myers and Austin Myers all of Kirksville, Missouri, Stephanie, Aaron and Adam Shoop of Kirksville, Missouri, Mallorey and Mitchell Rogers of Jefferson City, Missouri and Eleanor Rogers of Springfield, Missouri; three step great grandchildren, Alyssia Bass, Alexander and Jasmine Wyatt; along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wiley and Nora Miller; her husband, Sam Scott on April 20, 1977; five brothers, Porter, Wilfred, Clyde, Orville and Clayton Miller; three sisters, Sarah Francis Queen and Iva and Maureen both in infancy.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at the Doss Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri.

Burial was in the Park View Memorial Gardens in Kirksville, Missouri. Pastor John Davidson and Pastor Maynard Blackwood officiated and music was provided by Michael and Pam Blaine. Casket Bearers were her grandsons, Alan Myers, Andrew Rogers, Scott Myers, Shane Myers, Aaron Shoop, Adam Shoop and Austin Myers.

An expression of sympathy in memory of Relta Scott may be left to the Donor’s Choice. Memorials may be left at or mailed to the Doss Funeral Home 208 N. 4th Street, Edina, Missouri 63537.
