DOROTHY LEE RUTH

Dorothy Lee Ruth of Downing, Missouri, age 102, passed away on Thursday, June 10, 2010. The daughter of Elbridge and Frances (Bragg) Faris, she was born on March 28, 1908 southwest of Queen City, Missouri.
She was united in marriage to Earl Edward Ruth on December 23, 1928 and they resided in Chicago, Illinois for 40 years. He preceded her in death on January 2, 1965.
Also preceding Dorothy in death were her parents; a daughter, Roberta Lee Johnson; one son, Earl Faris Ruth; two grandsons, Richard Earl Erwin and baby boy Erwin; one granddaughter, Earlene Roberta Erwin; one brother and sister-in-law, Otis and Ruth Faris; one sister and brother-in-law, Daisy Mae and George Simmons; one son-in-law, Jackie Stroup; and one great-granddaughter, Becky Johnson.
Surviving Dorothy include one daughter, Emma Stroup of Downing, Missouri; one daughter-in-law, Dorothy J. Ruth of Mesa, Arizona; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; 23 great-great- grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Jessie Lawson of Ft. Worth, Texas; several nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; other family members and many good friends.
Dorothy attended the Charity Rural School of Queen City, Missouri and the Lancaster High School of Lancaster, Missouri graduating in 1927. She worked for International Harvester for 22 years, 6 months and 10 years for the Chicago Circle College. She was an Eastern Star member for over 60 years and a past matron. She was also a Rebekah member for over 60 years and a past noble grand and financial secretary for 10 years of the Rebekah Lodge. She was a member of the DAR and a member of the Downing Christian Church of Downing, Missouri.
Funeral services were held on Monday, June 14, 2010 at the Downing Christian Church with Sonny Smyser, pastor of the Schuyler County Church of Faith of Lancaster, Missouri officiating. Organist was Betty Anderson and soloist was Schelle Cooley. Special musical selections were “Sweet Hour of Prayer”, “Beyond The Sunset” and “The Old Rugged Cross”. Visitation was held with Rebekah services at the Downing Christian Church in Downing, Missouri. Memorials have been established for the Downing Christian Church in Downing, Missouri or to the Chicago Shriners. Burial was June 15, 2010 at the Chapel Hill Cemetery in Oak Lawn, Illinois.
