BETTY JOY EBELING
(7/24/1927 – 6/18/2010)

Betty Joy (Rector) Ebeling, 82, of Unionville, formerly of Wyaconda, died Friday, June 18, 2010, at the Putnam County Care Center in Unionville.

She was the second daughter born to Gilvie and Maxie (Joy) Rector on July 24, 1927, in Clark Co.

Betty was united in marriage to Carl Robert Ebeling on May 6, 1945 in Little Rock, Arkansas. He preceded her in death on December 23, 1987.

Carl and Betty Ebeling lived in Wyaconda for 43 years, where she stayed busy taking care of her home in the country, being a wife and mother. She loved gardening, working outside, raising chickens, maintaining a hog operation while also assisting her husband with his business. Betty was an avid gardener, master puzzle solver and enjoyed reading and watching television. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and loved her dog, Spunky who also preceded her in death.

Betty hosted a week every summer with her grandchildren, which she called the “best week of her life.” Her grandchildren felt the same about spending that time with their Grandma Betty. They spent a lot of time during that week camping at Arbela where Betty loved going out to eat at the Catfish Place. She was always quick to fix their favorite foods which they often requested at other times during the year. Her great grandchildren were also a bright spot in her life. Betty was delighted when her daughter Brenda would take her to Brayton and Haddie’s ballgames.

She will always be remembered for her smile, her chocolate salad, her love of dancing and her humor. Betty was famous for her homemade donuts, was a wonderful cook and a gracious hostess. Her great-grand daughter, Madison, said it best – “My Grandma is a Lady.”

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a sister, Doris Anderson; a son-in-law Robert Hurley; her great nephew, Grant; and brothers-in-law, Bill Hines and Wade Weber.

She is survived by her children, Robert and wife Jackie Ebeling of Wyaconda and Brenda Hurley-Warrick and husband Larry Warrick of Unionville; sister Evelyn Weber; brother-in-law Ed Anderson; grandchildren, Chris and wife Michelle Ebeling, Doug and wife Buffy Hurley, Shane and wife Danielle Ebeling and Rachel Hurley; three step grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m., Monday, June 21, 2010 at the Gerth Funeral Chapel in Wyaconda with the Rev. Ernest Deatrick officiating. Chris Ebeling, Doug Hurley, Shane Ebeling, Rachel Hurley, Rick Hines and George Steele served as pallbearers. Duane Ebeling, Ed Anderson, Jim Shaffer, Dave Haskins, Dale Fincher and Lane Cox were honorary pallbearers. Burial was in the Wyaconda Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the family and can be left at or mailed to the Gerth Funeral Service, 115 S. Main St., Wyaconda, MO 63474.

Condolences may be sent to Mrs. Ebeling’s family via email at gerths@gerths.com.

Arrangements were under the direction of Gerth Funeral Service from their Wyaconda chapel.
