MONA VEE KING
(2/21/1939 – 7/10/ 2010)



Mona Vee King, 71 of Downing, Missouri passed away on Saturday, July 10, 2010 at the Scotland County Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Missouri.

The daughter of Charley Ward and Lillie Vendetta (Jackson) Smith, she was born on February 21, 1939 in rural Memphis, Missouri. She was a graduate of the Davis County High School in Bloomfield, Iowa with the class of 1957. On October 12, 1959 in Des Moines, Iowa, she was united in marriage to Ronald Raymond King and to this union five children were born.

Survivors include her children, Ronald Laine King and wife, Linda of Bloomfield, Iowa, Lorrie Jackson and husband, Randy of Springhill, Florida, Floyd Wayne King of Downing, Missouri, Kelly Lewis King of Downing, Missouri and Mona Ray (Missy) Bennett and husband, Jeff of Downing, Missouri; nine grandchildren, Ryan King and fiancé, Melissa Wells of West Des Moines, Iowa, Lacy Abraham and husband, Jordan of Ankeny, Iowa, Ross King of Bloomfield, Iowa, Erika King of Packwood, Iowa, Aaron King of Hederick, Iowa, Tabitha Bennett, Amber Miller, Jessica Bennett and Shelby Bennett all of Downing, Missouri; 1 great grandchild, Peytann King of Des Moines, Iowa; her mother, Lillie Smith of Queen City, Missouri; 1 sister, Carolyn Stanley of Downing, Missouri; 1 brother, Elwyn Smith and wife, Sandy of Stanton, Tennessee; brothers and sister-in-law, Norman King, Gary King, Tim King, Dotti Grochale and Bobby King all of the Des Moines, Iowa area; nieces; nephews and many good friends.

Her father, Charley Ward Smith; her husband, Ronald Raymond King, and brothers and sister-in-law, Randy King, Mike King, Alan King and Katherine Sample preceded Mona Vee in death.

Mona Vee was a member of the Community Christian Church of Downing, Missouri and was a volunteer for the Oats Transportation as long as her health permitted.

Mona Vee worked for a number of years for the Davis County Hospital and later for the Bloomfield Care Center both in Bloomfield, Iowa. She was an avid horse and animal lover. She really loved and enjoyed her grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 15, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri with David Barton, pastor of the Downing Baptist Church of Downing, Missouri officiating. Organist, Betty Anderson and soloist, Schelle Cooley, will provide music. Special musical selections will be “The Old Rugged Cross”, “In The Garden” and “Amazing Grace”. Pallbearers will be Leo Holton, Vaughn Ruth, Robert Gallagher, Quinten Smyser, Clifford Ketchum and Tommy Anderson. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Oliver and Charlie Bunch. Memorials have been established for the Oats and Schuyler County Nutrition Site. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral services from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 15, 2010 at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri. Burial will be in the Downing Cemetery in Downing, Missouri. Arrangements are under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home of Downing and Lancaster, Missouri.
