Margaret Evelyn Lucille Jackson Boyer, 102 years of age, of rural Gorin, MO passed away Saturday, September 4, 2010 at the Scotland County Care Center, Memphis MO.

Lucille Boyer was born December 1, 1907, on her parent’s homesteaded farm near Hydro, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Harvey Eliakim and Rosalie Myer Jackson.

At the age of 6 years, Lucille, her brother, Gordon, and her parents moved from Oklahoma back to the South Liberty community of Scotland County, MO. She attended grade school at the rural one room South Liberty (Rabbit Harbor) grade school. She graduated from Gorin High School in 1927.

After receiving a teaching certificate from Kirksville State Teacher’s College, she started her teaching career at her home South Liberty School in the fall of 1927. She taught 5 years at her home grade school and later for many years at Gorin Community Schools after graduating from Northeast Missouri State (Truman) University in Kirksville, MO.

She married Wallace Pearl Boyer of Gorin, MO in 1932 and to this union three children were born. Surviving relatives include two sons; Keith Gordon Boyer and his wife Ruth Ann of Burlington, IA, Ronald R. Boyer and his wife Judy of Arbela, MO, and one daughter; Betty Jane Lakin and her husband Dean of Columbia, MO, ten grandchildren; Kent (Kim) Boyer of St. Louis, MO, Jeff (Julie) Boyer of Polo, MO, Tim (Patti) Boyer of Hiawatha, KS, Julie Ann Boyer (Kevin Webb) of Leawood, KS, Brad (Kristi) Boyer of Moberly, MO, Beth (Rob) Stellmacher of Waunakee, WI, Brian (Rhonda) Boyer of Joneboro, AK, Kevin (Erin) Boyer of Kansas City, MO, Kimberly Lakin Mize (Geoffrey) Charlotte, NC, and Phillip Lakin of Columbia, MO, sixteen great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and a brother-in-law; Hollis Boyer and his wife Anna Belle of Granger, MO.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Rose Jackson, her husband, Wallace Boyer and her brother, Gordon Jackson.

Lucille Boyer was very well known and active in many local, community, county and state organizations. As her family often said, if there was a “going” organization in the state of Missouri, Lucille was involved in it.

Lucille’s great love for her family, neighbors, church friends, her school and Sunday school classes were her life’s treasures.

Funeral services were held Monday, September 6, 2010 at the Gorin Christian Church, Gorin, MO. Memorials are suggested to the Gorin Christian Church or the Gorin Cemetery and can be left at or mailed to the Payne Funeral Home, 202 E. Madison Street, Memphis, MO, 63555.
