MARILYN CALENE STEELE
(9/28/1935 - 9/2/2010)



Marilyn Calene Steele age 74, of Wyaconda, MO, died Thursday, September 2, 2010 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.

Calene was born September 28, 1935, at Medill, MO, the daughter of Calvin and Irene Weber Deck.

On December 29, 1956, she was united in marriage to George O. Steele at the New Woodville Church.

Survivors include her husband, George O. Steele, of Wyaconda, MO; a daughter, Neva Harper and her husband, Johnnie, of Kahoka, MO; one grandson, Adam L. McIntosh and his wife, Shannon, of Wentzville, MO; a step granddaughter, Heather Harper of Macomb, IL; a great-grandson, Drake Michael McIntosh of Wentzville, MO; one brother, Billie Deck of Madison, MO; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Norma Jean and Virgil Scifres of Lewistown, MO, Orville and Johanna Steele of Gorin, MO, June and Louis Ferguson of Carroll, IA; nieces and nephews and their families; her cat, Hunter, which had belonged to her son, Michael; as well as other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Michael D. Steele on September 4, 1999.

Calene graduated from Trenton High School in 1953 and the University of Missouri in 1956. Following graduation, she finished out a term at Elvins, MO and later taught at Wyaconda and then Revere. At her retirement, she had been the Art Teacher at Clark Co. R-1 High School for over 20 years. She was supportive of all areas of fine arts and many years was involved in the school tech crew, producing sets for the fine arts productions.

Calene was a woman of strong faith and taught Sunday school at her church, New Woodville. She was a member of the M.S.T.A., Delta Kappa Gamma, Royal Neighbors of America, and Kahoka Chapter # 40, O.E.S.

Calene had a passion for art. In addition, she loved to travel, spend time outdoors, even deer hunting. She had a special love for her family and her many friends and enjoyed when they could all join together at their 4th of July celebrations.

Funeral services were held Sunday, September 5, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Pastor Shawn McAfee and Rev. Ernest Deatrick officiating and Mr. Adam McIntosh, Eulogist. Special music, “Amazing Grace” and “In the Garden” was provided by Mr. Dennis Deck, vocalist.

Honorary Pallbearers were Ella Wirsig, Paul and Delores Trammel, Brighton Deck, Phyllis Hutchinson, Lucille Lyons and Charlotte Evans.

Pallbearers were Kenneth Deck, Dennis Deck, Harry Joe Scifres, Don Ferguson, Adam McIntosh, Chuck Herron, David Ferguson and Vancil Scifres.

Burial was in New Woodville Cemetery.

Visitation was held after noon Saturday at Wilson Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 5:30 until 8 p.m.

Memorials were suggested to New Woodville Cemetery Fund.
