HELEN JEAN (DERIGO) YORK
(8/21/1930-10/7/2010)



Helen Jean (Derigo) York, 80, of San Antonio, Texas, formerly of Lancaster, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, October 7, 2010. Helen was born on August 21, 1930 to John Wayman and Molly Elizabeth (Welch) Derigo in Lancaster, Missouri. She married Otis Ewell “Fuzz” York on September 24, 1949 and to this union two children were born, Robert Wayne York and Judy Ann York. “Otie” and Helen Jean lived most of their married life in Lancaster, Missouri where Helen Jean worked for many years as a banker at the Schuyler County State Bank. They moved to southern Missouri in 1970 where “Otie” worked construction. They later moved to Dallas, Texas where Helen Jean again worked as a banker and “Otie” continued working construction. “Otie” passed away on March 18, 1990. Helen Jean moved to San Antonio, Texas where she stayed busy with friends in her neighborhood, organizing social events at a local country club and as a volunteer in the hospital gift shop. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Universal City, Texas. She always found time to stop at a casino or two while traveling to visit friends and family. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Otis Ewell “Fuzz” York.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Robert Wayne (Bob) York and wife, Tawnya of Bartlesville, Oklahoma and Judy VanDyke and husband, Randy of Spencer, Iowa; six grandchildren, Heather York, Rachel and Nick Strum, Jason York, Angie (VanDyke) Heikens, Amy and Wes Simpson and Ashley VanDyke; five great grandchildren, Paige and Chance Sorenson, Cole and Braden Heikens and Evalyn Simpson and many more loved ones and friends.

Memorial services were held Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri with Jon Mark Trammel, pastor of the Friendship Community Church officiating. Music was performed by organist, Maureen Watkins and soloist, Lanita Burbeck. Special musical selection of “Wind Beneath My Wings” was performed. Visitation was prior to the memorial services. Memorials have been established for the Schuyler County Ambulance. Burial was in the Arni Memorial Cemetery in Lancaster, Missouri. Arrangements were under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home of Lancaster, Missouri.
