Leona S. Small, 96, of Bedford, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, November, 10, 2010, at the Clearview Care Center in Clearfield, IA. The daughter of Towney and Geneva Wood Sanders she was born on April 29, 1914 in Plevna, MO.

She married Dennis O. Small February 14, 1937 and to this union four children were born, Dennis Jr., Donald, Kermit and Jeanette.

She worked at Sheller Globe from 1955 to 1973. After that she moved to Conway, Iowa.

Leona was an avid quilter and loved making quilts for her family. She loved the outdoors and being outside fixing whatever she could around her house and property. She never believed in calling a carpenter or a plumber as she would always take on these tasks herself.

Preceding her in death were her parents, one son, Dennis O. Small Jr.; two grandchildren, Terri Denise Davis and Tony D. Small; a son-in-law, Otis L. Perdew, one great-grandson, Timothy Mallett; five sisters and four brothers.

She is survived by two sons, Donald G. Small (Vada) of Rutledge, Missouri and Kermit Small (Karen) of Baring, Missouri; a daughter, Jeanette Perdew of Bedford, Iowa; 13 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 13 great-great grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to the family for their discretion and can be left at or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison St., Memphis, Missouri 63555.

Graveside services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 15, 2010 at the Greensburg Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Danny, Kevin, Doug and Michael Small, Curtis Perdew and Andy Mallett. Officiating the service was Rev. Leon Buford and Lana Cease read the eulogy.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Payne Funeral Chapel in Memphis, MO.
