EZRA Z. MARTIN
(6/29/1925 - 12/25/2010)

Ezra Z. Martin, 85, of Rural Memphis, MO died on Christmas morning, Dec. 25, 2010 at his son's, Ivan Martin's residence. The son of Ezra Sensenig and Anna Buckwalter Zimmerman Martin he was born on June 29, 1925 near Akron, PA. He married his wife of 52 years, Alta B. Horst, in 1946 and to this union nine children were born.

With the help of their children, Ezra and Alta operated a dairy farm in Lebanon County PA. Ezra was among those who bought a farm in Missouri in 1972 and one third of their children moved to Missouri.

Ezra and Alta traveled those thousand miles countless times to attend weddings of eighteen of their grandchildren. They came for deer hunting and he shot his first turkey here. Alta died in 1999 and left Ezra lonely and alone for twelve years. During that time he worked many hours at Brubaker Auto Sales. In 2010, he sold all of his earthly possessions and moved in with his children, most recently residing at Ivan Martin's.

Crappie fishing and swatting flies were his last remaining hobbies besides tending to the wood stove next to the recliner.

Thank you to all of you who took the time to acknowledge his presence at Martin's Auto. He appreciated that, even though he didn't talk much.

His health declined rapidly due to congestive heart failure and Dr. Duzan compassionately did not try to prolong his life. Ezra was ready to move on to eternity, doing so by dying in his sleep. Arrangements have been made for him to be in Pennsylvania beside his wife at the Mt Zion Church.

Surviving relatives include nine children, Melvin and Louella Horning of Lebanon, PA, Ivan and Louise Martin of Memphis, MO, James and Nora Horst of Memphis, MO, Eugene and Grace Brubaker of Memphis, MO, Clarence and Anna Ruth Martin of Richland, PA, Ezra Jr. and Eleanor Martin of Myerstown, PA, Leon and Mary Ellen Martin of Memphis, MO, Leon and Thelma Martin of Cayuga, NY, Leonard and Eva Jane Martin of Myerstown, PA; 56 grand children and 141 great grandchildren; two brothers, Hershey and his wife Anna Martin, and Willis and his wife Alta Martin; five sisters, Ruth Brubaker and husband Melvin, Anna Mary Burkholder and husband Lloyd, Eva Brubaker and husband Howard, Edna Sensenig and her husband Barton all of Lebanon County, PA and Alta Musser and her husband Alvin of Memphis MO.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; two brothers, Lester and James; and a two-year-old grandson.

Funeral services were held at the Indian Creek Mennonite Church on Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010 at 9:30 A.M. Officiating the service was Luke Fox and Merle Oberholtzer.

Casket bearers were Marcus and James Horst along with Wilson, Sterling, Kermit and Shane Martin.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Payne Funeral Chapel in Memphis.
