Muzzleloader Hunters Add to 2009 Deer Season Totals
The Missouri Department of Conservation reported a significant increase in the harvest numbers during the 2009 muzzleloader deer hunting season that ran December 19th – 29th.
Hunters checked in 13,476 deer, up 3,222 deer from last year’s total.
Osage County led the state with 352 muzzleloader kills followed by Oregon County at 333 and Howell County at 284.
Scotland County hunters bagged 127 deer during the 10-day hunting period, down one from last year’s total.
The northeast recording region reported a 317-deer increase from 2009 with a total of 1,962 deer checked in. That total consisted of 332 antlered bucks, 351 button bucks and 1,279 does.
Clark County hunters harvested 122 deer, while Knox County hunters bagged 150 deer and Schuyler County hunters checked in 63.
Pike County was tops in the northeast region with 206 deer followed by Macon County with 190 and Putnam County with 162.
