Three-Point Barrage Helps Tigers Blast Brashear 72-35
Scotland County put the pressure on Brashear Monday night and the like-named Tigers folded under the full-court defense allowing SCR-I to coast to a 72-35 victory in front of the home crowd.
Harley Stone scored the gameís first six points as Scotland County got off to a quick start. Brandon Garnett scored in the paint before Kyle Shelley converted on a Brashear turnover. Garnett brought the crowd to its feet when he finished off a three point play courtesy of another steal, making the score 13-5 just minutes into the contest and forcing a Brashear timeout.
Despite the scoring flurry, SCR-I started the game relatively cold shooting from the perimeter. Dakota Wells came off the bench to fix that. He knocked down three straight field goals, the fnal one coming from behind the arc, to extend the lead to seven points. Drew Miller then drilled a three pointer just before the buzzer to make the score 25-15 to close the first quarter.
Wells started the second period with a jumper from the wing and then found Shelley for a lay-in on a nifty give-and-go play to push the margin to 29-15 with 5:30 left in the second quarter.
Shelley added a couple more field goals and Miller hit another three pointer as SCR-I blew the contest open with a 16-0 run to head into halftime leading 41-15.
The Tigers continued to knock down shots from behind the arc. Wells and Kasey Dial each connected from down town too but Brashear actually trimmed the deficit to 54-32 at the end of three.
But Dial caught fire in the fourth quarter. The junior guard canned four consecutive three pointers in the games final eight minutes to help SCR-I cruise to the 72-35 victory.
Dialís hot shooting late gave him a game-high 19 points for the Tigers who improved to 3-6 on the year. Wells had 12 points off the bench and Garnett finished with 11 points. Shelley contributed 10 points and Miller and Stone added nine points to narrowly missing giving SCR-I six players in double digits.
