State-Ranked Lady Birds Ground Scotland County

A night after drubbing Brashear in its return from winter break, the Scotland County girls basketball team had the tables turned by state ranked South Shelby. The #8 ranked team in Missouri Class 3, made quick work of its Class 2 opponents in Memphis on Tuesday night, flying out of town with a 64-40 win.

SCR-I stayed within striking distance in the first period, but South Shelby held the Lady Tigers to just two second quarter points in building a 34-11 bulge at the intermission.

Scotland County looked like a different team coming out of the locker room. The Lady Tigers exploded for 21 points in the third period, led by Skyler Alderton’s seven points. Kiley Frazier added pair of hoops during the rally that trimmed the deficit to 47-32.

Ashley Tague knocked down a three pointer in the fourth period but SCR-I could not stop the balanced South Shelby scoring attack that saw 10 different players get into the scorebook, with three Lady Birds topping double digits.

Scotland County (7-3) was led in scoring by Tague and Alderton who each finished with 10 points.
