Hot Start Helps Tigers Knock Off North Shelby 62-46

It was a wonder the sprinkler system didnít open up over the court on Tuesday night in Memphis as the Scotland County Tigers were on fire in the first quarter of a 62-46 victory over North Shelby.

Drew Miller and Kasey Dial combined to knock down five three pointers in the opening eight minutes as SCR-I rushed out to a 21-0 lead. Dialís third three of the first quarter made the score 24-2.

The lead was as big as 27-2 after Miller canned his third three of the night early in the second period.

But the offense cooled off and North Shelby trimmed the deficit to 35-14 at the intermission after finally solving the SCR-I press and remedying turnover troubles that had plagued the first period.

The Raiders opened the third quarter on a 7-0 run before Brandon Garnett picked up the scoring load for the Tigers. The senior guard scored nine points in the third period to help the Tigers lead 48-29 despite a half court three pointer by Michael Stoneburner at the buzzer.

Garnett and Kyle Shelley combined for eight points in the final period to hold off a late surge by North Shelby and help the Tigers improve to 2-0 in the Tri-Rivers Conference.

Garnett finished with 16 points to lead Scotland County (7-8) in scoring. Shelley added 12 points and Dial and Miller each had nine points. Harley Stone and Brock Bondurant pitched in seven points each.
