Tigers Top Clark County to Run TRC Record to 3-1

Clark County has been a thorn in the side of Scotland County R-I seniors Kyle Shelley and Brandon Garnett throughout their four years as Scotland County Tigers.

The duo stepped up to score 36 points on Tuesday night in Kahoka as SCR-I picked up a key 63-53 conference victory over their long-time rivals.

Dakota Wells and Kasey Dial hit three pointers in the first period as SCR-I jumped out to an 11-7 advantage.

Six different Tigers scored in the second period as the Tigers depth came into play.

Wells, Sabe Sears and Harley Stone all had field goals during the stretch but it was Garnett and Shelley that did the bulk of the damage. Garnett canned a three pointer and added a bucket in the paint while Shelley had six points in the quarter to help push the Scotland County lead to 29-16 at the intermission.

Stone picked up the scoring slack in the third quarter. The sophomore had seven points. Shelley added a pair of field goals as the Scotland County lead grew to 43-27.

Garnett stepped up big in the fourth period. He made nine of 10 free throws down the stretch to help preserve the win. That was key as the rest of the Tigers were 3 of 7 at the charity stripe helping fuel a late run by the Indians.

Shelley held stave off the run with seven fourth quarter points as the Tigers prevailed by 10 points to improve to 8-9 on the year and 3-1 in the Tri-Rivers Conference.

Shelley finished with a season-high 20 points to lead the Tigers. Garnett added 16 points and Stone pitched in with 11 points.
