Tigers Mash Milan 54-17 in District 14 Tourney Opener

To say Scotland County dominated the second half on Tuesday night’s district tournament opener against Milan would be a definite understatement. The Tigers outscored their opponent 31-2 in the games final 16 minutes to advance to the Class 2 District 14 semifinals with a 54-17 win.

Drew Miller and Dakota Wells connected on three pointers for SCR-I as the Tigers built a slim 11-9 lead at the end of the first period.

Andrew Mathes had five points in the second period and Wells found the range again from behind the arc as Scotland County built a 23-15 lead at the intermission.

The wheels simply fell off for the Wildcats at the start of the second half. Wells continued to hold the hot hand, dialing in once again from downtown, while scoring seven points in a 21-2 run that blew the game open for the Tigers. Miller nailed a pair of three pointers and Kasey Dial got into the long distance act as well, as the trio combined for four three pointers and 18 points total during the key stretch.

Wells’ fourth three pointer of the contest early in the fourth quarter extended the lead to 30 points and insured a running clock for most of the fourth period as SCR-I rolled on to the 54-17 victory.

Scotland County improved to 11-14 on the year behind a season-high 16 points from Wells. Mathes finished with 10 points and Miller added nine.

Milan was led in scoring by Zack Brittain with five points.
