Youth Hunters Check in 139 Deer in Scotland County

Youngsters in Scotland County apparently were not too torn between Trick or Treating versus deer hunting. By the looks of the official results from the Missouri Conservation Department, most local deer enthusiasts were able to do both during the special youth deer season October 30th and 31st.

According to MDC, hunters between the ages of 6 - 15 checked in 139 deer during the two-day youth season. Of that total, a whopping 81 were antlered bucks, with 19 button bucks and 39 does also harvested.

That big total compared favorable to surrounding counties. Clark County youth hunters checked in 140 deer while Adair County saw 156 successful youth hunts. Knox County had 121 deer checked in while Putnam County had 101 and Schuyler County had 73.

Osage County was tops in the state with 304 deer taken during the two-day season. Youth hunters in Callaway County checked in 277 deer followed by Franklin County with the third highest total at 266.

Macon County led the northeast region with 226 deer harvested.

Youth hunters that have unfilled tags will get a second chance January 1-2, 2011.

As of November 2, youth season combined with the archery season has accounted for a deer harvest of 466 in Scotland County. That figure breaks down to include 245 does, 167 antlered bucks and 54 button bucks.

The first half of the archery season opened September 15 and will close November 12.

The firearms deer season runs November 13-23. The special anterless only season runs November 24 - December 5. Muzzleloader deer season is scheduled from December 18-28.

The archery season reopens November 24 and runs through January 15, 2011.
