Three Point Barrage Helps Lady Tigers End Streak Against Clark County

Ronald Reagan defeated Walter Mondale to win his second term as U.S. President, Apple introduced the Macintosh computer and the Scotland County Lady Tigers beat Clark County. The year was 1984.

SCR-I finally erased a 26-year losing streak against its nemesis Lady Indians with a 42-25 victory on November 23rd in Memphis to open the 2010-2011 hoops season in style.

The game opened with a three pointer by Ashley Tague, a sign of things to come. Still, early on it looked as if the streak would hold up as the Lady Tigers fell behind 10-7 in the first period.

Tague and Skyler Alderton nailed back-to-back three pointers to open the second period and put SCR-I on top 13-10 with 5:19 left in the first half, forcing a Clark County timeout.

The stoppage didn't help the Lady Indians, as they would never see the lead again.

Cali Holt scored on a drive to the basket and Tague hit her third triple of the first half to extend the lead to 18-12.

Scotland County put the game away with an 8-0 run to open the third period. Clark County had no answer for the long range barrage released by Tague and Alderton. The senior duo connected from behind the arc twice during the key stretch.

Tague scored on an inbounds play to push the lead to 26-14 before Jamie Shaw scored in the paint with 4:33 left in the third period to keep the lead at a dozen points.

That margin was short lived as Tague connected on her fifth three pointer of the contest and then found Shaw wide open under the basket with a nice pass to make the score 33-16 heading into the final period.

Scotland County struggled a bit at the free throw line in the fourth quarter but the defensive effort made sure Clark County was unable to rally.

SCR-I outscored Clark County 9-7 in the final eight minutes to secure the 42-25 victory and open the year 1-0.

Tague led all scorers with 21points. Alderton added 13 points while Shaw and Holt each finished with four points.

Kailey Roberts and Hannah Trump each had six points to top Clark County.

SCR-I returns to action this week as the #1 seed in the Novinger Tourney. The Lady Tigers opened their bid to win the tournament for the third straight season on Tuesday against the Moberly junior varsity. LaPlata is the #2 seed in the bracket that also features Milan (3), Brashear (4), Novinger (5), Bevier (6) and Green City (7).

A win in the opener would mean the Lady Tigers would play Thursday at 5:45 p.m. The tourney third place game is set for Friday night at 7:30 p.m. with the championship contest slotted for Saturday at 5:45 p.m.
