Duley Receives DAR Good Citizenship Award at Group's Christmas Luncheon
The DAR Good Citizenship Award was presented to SCR-1 senior, Anna Duley, by the Jauflione Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, at its annual Christmas luncheon held December 2, 2010 at the Memphis Presbyterian Church. Special guests at the luncheon were Anna and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Phil Duley; Brent Bondurant, SCR-1 Guidance Counselor; and Holly Harris, prospective member of DAR.
Vice-Regent Marlene Cowell welcomed the guests. Chaplain Grace Brown gave the blessing before the meal. After the luncheon, the DAR Good Citizenship Award was presented to Miss Duley. Her mother had the honor of presenting the Good Citizenship pin to her daughter.
After the award ceremony concluded, the business meeting was conducted by Vice-Regent Cowell in ritualistic form. Chaplain Grace Brown led in the Lord's Prayer for devotional. Roll call was answered by twelve members.
The President General's message was read by Nelda Billups. National Defense lesson was given by Marlene Cowell. Mona Tague read the Indian Minute. The minutes of the November meeting were read and approved. The treasurer's report was given by June Kice.
Corresponding Secretary June Kice reported that the Chapter had recently acquired a photo of Blanche Culbertson Woodsmall, who was Organizing Regent of Jauflione Chapter in 1926. Registrar Verlee Dauma reported that two pending membership applications had been verified by the National Society. A work schedule was set up for the table at the Beta Bazaar on December 4. Members brought items for donation to the Veterans Hospital at Columbia.
The program was "Christmas Memories" with everyone sharing some of their special memories of the holiday. Next meeting will be January 7, 2011.
