Memphis Dairy Day Program Set for February 24th

The annual Memphis Dairy Day program will be held on Thursday, February 24th at the Scotland County Fitness Center, located on the south side of Hwy 136 in Memphis. The program will run from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. with lunch provided courtesy of several sponsoring businesses.

There is no cost to attend and all interested dairymen are invited to take part in this worthwhile event. The program will include Scott Poock, Extension Dairy Veterinarian from the University of Missouri. He will talk about lowering somatic cell counts and feeding and care of dairy calves.

Alix Carpenter, Extension Agronomist from Palmyra will discuss alfalfa management. Joe Koenen and Darla Campbell, Agricultural Business specialists in Northeast Missouri will address current cash rental rates and trends. Mark Orton, NRCS Technician, will update producers on cost-share programs through the NRCS and SWCD.

"This is a great chance to bring your questions for our speakers to answer for you" says Joe Koenen, who has coordinated the event for several years.

"This program has been extremely successful for many years and we've tried to continue with that this year" said Koenen. "We've again given dairymen more time during the day to visit with those businesses that have booths. We feel like we have another top notch program lined up this year."

The program would not be possible without the help and financial support of sponsors. They provide the meal at noon and help support this program. A complete list of sponsors will be available the day of the event.

Milk and cheese are provided that day through the courtesy of Prairie Farms and Dairy Farmers of America (DFA) with cups and napkins provided by FCS Financial.
