Scotland County Celebrates 2011 OATS Volunteer of the Year

On Monday April 11, Scotland County recognized Patricia Brock as the 2011 Volunteer of the Year. A party was held in her honor at Keith's Cafe in Memphis.

Patricia Brock of Gorin was born in New York City and moved to Missouri about six years ago. She has two sons, five step-children, and three grandchildren. Her hobbies are working puzzles and playing games on the computer. Patricia became involved with OATS in 2009 and is currently serving the Scotland County OATS Support committee as a contact for Gorin. She supports OATS because the transportation service it provides helps people get to their doctor and allows them to do their shopping. Patricia encourages everyone to take a trip with OATS because it is a safe way to travel and a good place to make new friends.

With over 1,100 volunteers, there are few organizations that have more reason to celebrate National Volunteer Week than OATS, Inc. In most of the counties OATS serves, there are between eight to twenty-four volunteers, mostly riders, who help OATS continue to provide a level of service far beyond what their funding might allow. Since 1971, OATS has continued to rely on these volunteers for fund raising, scheduling and publicity. In 2010 volunteer's reported 60,621 hours of service - an impressive $922,069 value to OATS.

OATS is a not-for-profit corporation that relies heavily on volunteers from within their communities. If you would like to get involved in OATS, please contact Sheree Webb at 573-588-2103.

For more information about OATS, Inc., or how you can become a volunteer, please visit their website www.oatstransit.org or contact Sheree Webb, Regional Director, NE OATS, Inc. at 573-588-2103.
