Gorin Board of Education Fills Teacher Vacancy at May Meeting

The Gorin R-III Board of Education met in regular session on Tuesday, May 17, 2011. President Diane Tague called the meeting to order at 6 p.m., with four members present. New board member Tyrell Sizemore was sworn in. Alicia Berry was not in attendance. Tammi Dale joined the meeting at 6:30.

After approval of all consent agenda items the board moved into old business.

The board accepted the resignation of 5th/6th grade classroom teacher Rebecca Brightwell with regrets. The board then interviewed Mrs. Heather Brush for that same position.

Under old business the board opened the floor to Mr. Drew Beaugard. Mr. Beaugard is regional director for Forrest T. Jones & Company, Inc. Drew shared with the board information regarding offering a health savings account insurance option to employees. The board elected to give employees a choice of PPO or a HSA.

In new business Mrs. Townsend gave the 21st Century Community Learning Center report. Next, they discussed career ladder payments, summer repairs, summer school, and MORENet. The district will be paying the district portion of career ladder for the '10 - '11 school year, but will not offer career ladder next year. The district will run a 21st Century summer school program beginning on May 31st and running through June 22.

The board interviewed Anna Nelson for the 5th/6th grade classroom position.

The board went into executive session at 8:49 p.m. to discuss student updates, including the due process hearing, medical updates, behavior updates, and a health department report. Then, the board discussed the bus driver contract and other non-certified contracts returned. The board discussed the interview candidates and applications that had been received. Ryan Miller made a motion to offer Heather Brush a contract for the 5th/6th grade position, Tyrell Sizemore seconded. The vote was all in favor.

The board returned to regular session at 9:45 p.m.

The next regular scheduled meeting is Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at 6:30 p.m.
