Dave Koch Receives FFA Blue & Gold Award

On May 18, the Memphis FFA Chapter held its annual Spring Banquet where one member of the community received a coveted award for his outstanding dedication to the chapter and in particular the Trapshooting team.

Dave Koch graduated from Bradley University in Peoria, IL with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. He retired in 2008 from Caterpillar after 39 years of service. He has been farming in Scotland County for over 30 years, moving here permanently 3 years ago after retiring and has made Scotland Co his home. He and his wife Luanne own and operate Little Fox River Sporting Clays at his farm north of Azen. Dave is an active member in the community as a 4-H shooting sports instructor and an assistant with the FFA trapshooting team. He has a great passion for working with kids and is always willing to give his time and support.

Dave has shot Skeet and Trap for many years, but his main focus and passion is Sporting Clays, which he has been shooting competitively for over 5 years. He is a certified Level 1 instructor in sporting clays, certified 4-H instructor in shooting sports for shotgun, and a certified NRA/ATA trap coach. He has achieved many trophies and awards personally for his shooting. Dave recently achieved a spot on the 2011 All-American Team, ranking 21st in the nation for 20 gauge, and 24th in the nation for 28 gauge.

Dave will tell anyone his most recent achievement was helping the FFA Trapshooters win District and have a successful State shoot this year. He says it is not all about the winning, but the many lessons learned along the way. Dave's main goal for everyone he coaches is safety and having fun.
