Baring Man in Custody Following High-Speed Chase

When a Scotland County Sheriff's deputy clocked a passing motorist traveling 78 mph, little did he know it was only going to get faster.

The law officer attempted to make a traffic stop on the vehicle on Highway 15, south of Memphis, near the roadside park. The driver had other plans, as he fled from the officer, leading him on a pursuit that finally ended in Knox County on Route Y, southeast of Greensburg, but not before the fleeing vehicle hit speeds as high as 109 mph.

Officers from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Memphis and Edina police departments responded to assist in apprehending the suspect, 40-year-old Herbert L. Morrison, of Baring.

He was transported to the Scotland County Jail where he was held for a 12-hour detoxification period.

Morrision faces charges of exceeding the posted speed limit of 55 mph, traveling 109 mph; driving while intoxicated; failure to have financial responsibility; failure to register his motor vehicle annually with the Department of Revenue; and resisting arrest by fleeing in a motor vehicle; not to mention failure to wear his seatbelt during the dangerous chase.

Morrison is scheduled to appear before Judge Karl DeMarce in Memphis on July 19th.
