Kirksville Man Arrested Following Chase

A Kirksville man is in custody in the Scotland County Jail following a failed attempt to elude law enforcement officers on Thursday.

Randy L. Perkins, 33, is being held on $25,000 bond following his arrest at 5:29 p.m. on September 29th in rural Scotland County.

According to court documents, Perkins was driving a red Chevy car southbound on Route M at the south city limits of Rutledge, when a Scotland County Sheriff's Deputy clocked the vehicle exceeding the posted speed limit.

When the deputy activated his emergency lights and attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the Perkins vehicle passed another vehicle stooped at the junction of Route M and County Road #104 at a high rate of speed. A pursuit ensued with the deputy chasing the Perkins vehicle until Perkins lost control of the car as he tried to turn westbound on Knox County road #57. The car ran off the roadway and crashed into a stop sign before coming to rest in the road ditch.

Perkins exited the vehicle and fled into some nearby timber where he ultimately was apprehended by the sheriff's deputy.

Perkins was transported to the Scotland County Jail. He is charged with a class D felony of resisting a lawful stop, a class D felony of driving without a valid license as a persistent offender, having previously been convicted of the crime on three separate instances. He also faces class C misdemeanor charges of driving a vehicle on the left side of the roadway within 100 feet of an intersection and exceeding the posted speed limit.

The Scotland County Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by the Memphis Police Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
