Jauflione Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, hosted its annual reception to honor veterans on Friday, November 4, 2011 at the Presbyterian Church in Memphis. Chaplain Grace Brown assisted at the guest book. As each veteran signed in he was given a thank-you card with a restaurant gift certificate from the Chapter in appreciation of his service. Other small gifts were also presented.

Veterans and guests were welcomed by Regent Susan Miller. She thanked all the veterans for their service. She spoke briefly about two of her sons who served with the U.S. Marines in Iraq, with one of them being badly wounded in action.

The Pledge of Allegiance to the U.S. Flag was repeated by all. Coffee, punch and cookies were served from a table beautifully decorated in red, white, and blue. The other tables were also decorated in a patriotic theme. Military mementoes and pictures of veterans were on display. The decorating and serving committee was Reta Stott, June Kice, and LeGene Padgett, assisted by several other members.

Regent Miller introduced June Kice, DAR Treasurer, who asked each veteran in turn to introduce himself and tell something about his service. The branches of the military in which the veterans had served were the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Air National Guard, with service in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. Spouses of deceased veterans Dale Rood, Martin Cowell, and Paul Phillips were also recognized and spoke briefly of their husbands' service. Other members with relatives who were veterans were also recognized.

Regent Miller talked about Honor Flight, one of the projects of Missouri State DAR Regent Donna Nash. Honor Flights provide trips to Washington, DC for World War II veterans to visit the monument erected in honor of their service. World War II veteran Harley Erickson participated in an Honor Flight in 2010, and related some of the highlights of his trip.

Veterans and guests who attended were Harley and Janet Erickson, Ivan and Virginia Woods, Charles Harris, Don Tague, Alvin Howard, Keith Chance, Gerald Eaves, Bob Carney, Rodger Holton, George Owings, Tom Owings, Gary See, and Mitch Jayne. Also Elaine Smith, Susan Miller, Marlene Cowell, June Kice, Grace Brown, Verlee Dauma, Reta Stott, JoAnn Rood, Joan Cecil, Nelda Billups, Celina Erickson, Mary Kay Miles, Holly Harris, and Joanne Aylward.
