SCR-I Marching Band Takes Top Honors at Culver Stockton Parade

by Anna Hirner

This year the Scotland County High School band has been extremely successful, starting with their first performance of the year at Antique Fair Days, where in the opinions of many, they looked the best they had in a while. Band director, Jamie Hicks, has improved the band program immensely since she took over, and it's apparent by how well the band has done thus far.

This year the Scotland County Marching Tigers of 43 members went to Culver-Stockton's Homecoming Parade, and received 1st in their division and overall. That showed marked improvement compared to when the Tigers went to the same parade six years ago and placed last overall.

At almost every parade this year, the Marching Tigers have managed to place in the top 3. At Culver-Stockton they placed 1st in their division, and overall. At the Kahoka Parade of Champions, the Tigers placed 2nd, losing to Warsaw High School, and the Scotland County Junior High band placed 4th. In September, the Junior High marching band of 37 members went to the Centerville Pancake Day parade and got 4th place there as well. Going to Hannibal Band Days this year, the band only received positive comments from the judges, adding to the successful year. To end the marching season, the Tigers decided to take on a new parade, the Quincy Oktoberfest parade. The band enjoyed watching the field shows even though they did not place 1st and no other results were posted.

Now that the Marching season is over, the Tigers move on to Pep-Band and Concert Band, and hope everyone will come and enjoy their performance at the Winter Concert on December 15 at 7:00 pm.
