Depot Restoration Committee Honoring Former Leader

A fresh coat of paint was administered to the Memphis Railroad Depot earlier this fall as volunteers gathered to honor the Depot Restoration Committee's long-time leader, Barbara Howard, who passed away October 12th.

Organizers are hoping to pay further tribute to Howard's memory with additional improvements at the depot, part of the Downing House museum complex in Memphis.

Committee members are planning repairs and painting of the buildings soffit areas next spring. A leaky roof has made some of this repairs necessary, leading to the group's next major project.

The group will be raising funds for this and future projects with a craft, food and gift sales booth at the Christmas Bazaar at Scotland County R-I High School on December 3rd. Supporters may donate items for sale or can assist by attending the Bazaar and choosing the Scotland County Historical Society's booth as one of their shopping stops.

Monetary donations for the Depot restoration projects may also be mailed to the Scotland County Historical Society at PO Box 263, Memphis, MO 63555.

"Your help is needed now more than ever with the loss of our dear friend and dedicated chairman, Barbara Howard," said current chairman Jeanie Bissell. "It is taking even more of us to fill the void. Thank you for all your help and know anything you do for or give to the depot is greatly appreciated."

For more information on the Depot projects contact Jeanie or Boyd Bissell, or fellow committee members Janet Hamilton, LeGene Padgett, Lois Shelley, Sandy Childress or Don Norton.
