New Patient Rooms Opened at Scotland County Hospital as Expansion Project Moves Forward

Theresa Yearns, Chelsea Jones & Chrissy Green walk to Chelsea's new room at Scotland County Hospital in Memphis as the facility opened its new patient rooms on December 12th.

Although a hospital stay is rarely something good, on Monday afternoon, December 12th, patients at Scotland County Hospital were all pleased to move into nice, new rooms during their hospital stay in Memphis. As of Monday afternoon, patients & staff are now occupying the new Medical/Surgical Nursing Unit at the Hospital.

The first patient to move was Luella M. Jones of Memphis. Carol Davila, CNA, accompanied her to the new room, while Carla Cook RN BSN and Bonnie Carman RN MSN prepared Mrs. Jones' room in the new Medical/Surgical Unit. Not long after Mrs. Jones occupied her new room, little Miss Chelsea Jones of Downing walked out of the old medical/surgical unit, accompanied by her mother and Chrissy Green, CNA, into the new unit and in to her new room. Chelsea's mother, Theresa Yearns, said, "These rooms feel more like home, actually." While Chelsea promptly piped in about how she felt about her new room, "I think it's pretty nice!"

While SCH nursing staff capably moved the rest of the patients from the former Med/Surg unit into the new unit, the EMS and ER staff admitted a patient from the Emergency Department to the Hospital. By the end of the move Monday evening, a total of 13 patients were occupying the new in-patient rooms at Scotland County Hospital.

Demolition of the former Medical/Surgical Nursing Unit began immediately after the move and renovation of that area is in progress. Furthermore, the east parking lot in front of Memphis Medical Services (MMS) is under construction. MMS patients, Emergency Room, Cardiac Rehab, Lab, Radiology, and Therapy patients are asked to use the new South Entrance & Parking lot (off Watkins Street) while Women's Center and Health Department patients are asked to park in the north parking lot (off Sigler Avenue) to access those entrances. There is a drop off area under the new canopy at the South Entrance.

Patients (or family members) are encouraged to call ahead if they want directions or instructions for parking or entrance into the Hospital (660-465-8511) or Memphis Medical Services (660-465-2828).
