Dispute With Hunters Leads to Arrest of Gorin Man

A Gorin man is facing charges following his arrest stemming from an altercation on December 21st regarding hunting rights.

According to the Scotland County Sheriff's Office, Ralph D. Erickson, 67, is facing charges of harassment by communication as well as trespassing in the 2nd degree.

According to court documents, Erickson allegedly entered property adjoining his own, which was owned by Brent Rockhold, and leased by Mossy Oak Hunting Properties. Erickson allegedly confronted the lease holder, Nick Boley of Mt. Sterling, IA, and three fellow hunters from Alaska, reportedly threatening to shoot Boley. The incident took place at approximately 11 a.m. on December 21st.

A Scotland County Sheriff's Deputy and an officer from the Memphis Police Department, investigated the complaints.

Erickson was interviewed later that afternoon. He indicated the dispute was triggered by a cattle fence on his property that had allegedly been cut during the 2011 firearms deer season in November.

Erickson was issued a pair of citations. He was released on a summons to appear in the Scotland County Court on January 3rd, at 9 a.m.
