Hospital Awarded $178,928 Grant From Missouri Foundation for Health

(ST. LOUIS) - Three northeast Missouri nonprofits have received a total of $479,894 in grants from the Missouri Foundation for Health (MFH). Grant funding supports nonprofit organizations that work to improve the health of thousands of Missourians.

The local grants are part of a $1.8 million round of funding recently approved by MFH's Board of Directors.

MFH's Health Care Workforce Development funding program supports projects that increase the number of health care practitioners in underserved areas; encourage youth to consider health careers; and increase nursing schools' enrollment capacity. The three grants were awarded to:

Northeast Missouri Area Health Education Center, Kirksville, $179,968. Funding helps the organization provide educational programs, service projects and career clubs for rural high school students interested in health professions.

Northeast Missouri Caring Communities Inc., Edina, $120,998. With funding, the organization is offering career camps, college tours and field trips for junior high and high school students interested in health professions.

Scotland County Memorial Hospital, Memphis, $178,928. The northeast Missouri hospital is using funding to partner with area school districts and health professionals to create a health career club and mentoring program.

Established in 2000, MFH is the largest nongovernmental funder of community health activities in Missouri. MFH is in its 10th year of grantmaking, having issued more than

$438 million in grants and awards to date. It is dedicated to improving the health of unserved and underserved residents in 84 Missouri counties and the City of St. Louis.
