BARBARA JEAN ROSS
(8/30/1936 - 2/12/2011)



Barbara Jean Ross, 74 passed away on Saturday, February 12, 2011 in Kirksville, Missouri at the home of her daughter.

The daughter of John Alonzo and Mary Ruth (Pedigo) Fogle, Barbara was born on August 30, 1936 in rural Downing, Missouri. Following graduation from the Downing High School with the class of l954, she was united in marriage to Jackie (Jack) Gene Ross on June 6, 1954 at the Downing Baptist Church in Downing, Missouri and to this union four children were born, Tresa, Diana, Donna and Mikel.

Survivors include her children, Tresa Whittom and husband, Gary of Ely, Iowa, Diana Young and husband, Jay of Kirksville, Missouri, Donna Womack and husband, Richard of Farmington, Missouri and Mikel Ross of Lambertville, New Jersey; 5 grandchildren, Andrea Turner and husband, Matt of LaPlata, Missouri, Nick Roberts and wife, Emily of Columbia, Missouri, Cody Whittom of Ely, Iowa, Lauren Womack and Adam Womack both of Farmington, Missouri; 1 sister, Patricia Richardson of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; a brother-in-law, Wayne Hope of Farmington, New Mexico; an aunt, Hazel Blankenship of Kirksville, Missouri; nieces, nephews and other family members and many good friends and neighbors.

Barbara is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack on May 12, 2000; a sister, Marilyn Hope; a brother, Roscoe Fogle and a brother-in-law, Llewelyn Richardson.

Barbara was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and a very faithful member of the Downing Baptist Church of Downing, Missouri where she was the Adult Women's Sunday School Teacher.

During her career at Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, Barbara began working in the Medical Billing department. During that time, she attained the position of Business Office Manager where she was responsible for the medical billing for KCOM and KOH as well as the staff of 20 employees. Barbara retired in the fall of 2000 after 27 years of dedicated service. After her retirement, Barbara was able to devote her energy to her passions: family, church and community. She volunteered for the Downing Depot and Museum as well as the Meals on Wheels and was always known for her warm smile, endless generosity, and delicious food and baked goods she so lovingly made and gave to so many.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at the Downing Baptist Church in Downing, Missouri with John Davison, pastor of the Illinois Bend Community Church, south of Kirksville, Missouri officiating. Twila Anderson, organist, Brenda Aeschliman, soloist and the Downing Baptist Church choir provided the music. The choir provided special selections of "I Know Who Holds Tomorrow" and "A New Name In Glory" and "The Lord's Prayer" was provided by soloist, Brenda Aeschliman. Pallbearers were Nick Roberts, Cody Whittom, Tommy Baxter, J. L. Newland, Gail Farley and Faron Mullinix.

Memorials have been established for the Downing Baptist Church or to Hospice of Northeast Missouri. Burial will be in the Downing City Cemetery in Downing, Missouri. Arrangements are under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home of Lancaster and Downing, Missouri.
