DIXIE MAE HURLEY
(10/25/1923 - 2/19/2011)



Dixie Mae Hurley, 87 of Livonia, Missouri passed away on Saturday, February 19, 2011 at the Schuyler County Nursing Home in Queen City, Missouri.

The daughter of Finley Auston and Delia Mae (Morgan) McKinley, she was born on October 25, 1923 in Mendota, Missouri. Dixie was raised in the Mendota, Missouri area attending the McKinley Elementary School and graduating from the Unionville High School in 1942. She was united in marriage to Doyle Edwin Hurley on June 23, 1942 in Lancaster, Missouri and to this union 2 children were born, Larry and Linda.

Survivors include her children, Larry Hurley and wife, Joyce of Livonia, Missouri and Linda Beeler of Fenton; 6 grandchildren, Jeffrey Beeler of Festus, Missouri, Rhett Hurley of Livonia, Missouri, Chedrick Hurley and wife, Traci of Trenton, Missouri, Melissa Finlay and husband, John of Centralia, Missouri, Robbin Robinson and husband, Bill of St. Peters, Missouri and Kristin Miller and husband, Andy of Liberty, Missouri; 12 great grandchildren, Mason and Gabriel Hurley, Scotlin, McKinley and Mykah Hurley, Kalin, Cady and Caris Finlay, Zachary and Zoey Robinson, Brooks and Adeline Miller; nieces, nephews and other family members.

Dixie is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Doyle on June 3, 1997; one brother, Neal McKinley and one sister-in-law, Anita McKinley.

Doyle and Dixie operated grocery stores in Mendota, Lucerne and Livonia, Missouri. They moved to Livonia, Missouri where Doyle was Postmaster and they began farming and continued to farm up to the present. Both Dixie and Doyle were very involved with the Livonia community activities as she was the secretary of the Board of Education for the Livonia High School and was a member of the Livonia American Legion. She also served for 33 years for the National Weather Service and was employed with Wal-Mart in Kirksville, Missouri for 15 years as a door greeter.

Dixie was a very faithful member of the Lancaster Christian Church of Lancaster, Missouri and attended the Wednesday morning Bible Study.

Dixie loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, as she was very dedicated to all of them. She was always concerned about others before herself and she will be missed.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at the Lancaster Christian Church in Lancaster, Missouri with Steve Altheide, pastor of the Lancaster Christian Church officiating. Jeff Beeler gave the eulogy. Music was provided by Maureen Watkins, organist and Beth Gravett, soloist. Special selections were "In The Garden" and "The Old Rugged Cross". Pallbearers were Jeff Beeler, Rhett Hurley, Ched Hurley, Andy Miller, Bill Robinson and John Finlay.

Memorials have been established for St. John's Cemetery in Livonia, Missouri or to the Schuyler County Nursing Home in Queen City, Missouri. Burial was in the St. John's Cemetery in Livonia, Missouri.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home of Lancaster, Missouri.
