WILMA LEONA (REDDING) SMOOT
(7/9/1922 - 6/8/2011)



Wilma Leona (Redding) Smoot, 88 of rural Downing, Missouri passed away at her home in Downing, Missouri on Wednesday, June 08, 2011.

The daughter of Richard Thomas and Allie Myrtle (Allen) Redding, she was born July 9, 1922 in the home. She was united in marriage to Robert Cly Smoot on December 24, 1939 in Memphis, Missouri and to this union four children were born, Phyllis, Richard, Dean and Linda.

Survivors include her children, Phyllis Boyle of Downing, Missouri, Richard (Dick) and wife, Nancy Smoot of Greentop, Missouri, Dean Smoot of Memphis, Missouri and Linda Bell and husband, Bob of Sherrard, Illinois; 9 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; special friends, Rick and Teena Fugate, Don and Stephanie Campbell; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Wilma is preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Allie Redding; her husband, Robert Cly Smoot on November 10, 1989; 1 grandson, Jeffrey Allen Houghton in 1961; 1 granddaughter, Marci Dieterich in 1983; 2 sisters, Helen Riley and Maxine Atkinson and 2 brothers, Leonard Redding and Robert Redding.

Wilma worked on their dairy farm as well as worked for her sister, Maxine Atkinson at the Downing Cafe in Downing, Missouri for many years.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 11, 2011 at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri with Sonny Smyser, Pastor of the Schuyler County Church of Faith of Lancaster, Missouri officiating. Special CD musical selections were "The Old Rugged Cross" and "When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder". Pallbearers were Don Campbell, Jerry Duncan, Alan Blessing, Steve Blessing, Rick Fugate and David Fugate. Honorary pallbearers were Teena Fugate and Stephanie Campbell. Memorials have been established for the Schuyler County Church of Faith of Lancaster, Missouri. Burial was in the Downing Cemetery in Downing, Missouri.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home of Lancaster and Downing, Missouri.
