ESTHER ELIZABETH DAY JOHNSON
(3/19/1940 - 7/8/2011)



On July 8, 2011 Esther Elizabeth Day Johnson went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, at the age of 71, where she died peacefully at home in her sleep. Esther was a long time resident of Athens, Texas and her current residence has been in Hugo, Oklahoma for the past 12 years.

Esther was born on March 19, 1940 in Arbela, MO. She was the ninth of ten children of Otto and Blanche (Wright) Day.

Esther was married to Johnny Mack Johnson on July 10, 1965, at the home of Wayne and Joyce Pillans in St Elmo, Texas.

Esther enjoyed reading books and poetry, gardening, bird and nature watching, woodworking, decorating, baking cookies, quilting and watching bull riding.

Esther was survived by her husband Johnny Mack Johnson of Hugo, Oklahoma, son Johnny Day and wife Pam Johnson of Athens, Texas, daughter Rachel and husband Mark Tidwell of Greenville, Texas. Grandchildren Ryan Johnson and Shelbie Johnson of Athens, Texas, John Russell Tidwell of Greenville, Texas. Siblings, sister Vera and husband Howard Hamilton of Arbela, Missouri, brother Don and wife Juanita Day of Westpoint, Illinois, sister Leona Oliver of Salem, Oregon, brother Rodney and Doris Day of Gorin, Missouri, brother Earl and wife Carol Day of Abbington, Illinois, brother Bert Day of Branson West, Missouri, and brother Richard and wife Karen Day of Salem, Oregon and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by father Otto Day, mother Blanche Wright Day, brother Robert Day and sister Opal Day.

Her favorite hymn was "His Eye is on the Sparrow" and her favorite song was "I Just Called to Say I Love You" and her favorite book was "Winter Wheat" by Mildred Walker and her favorite scripture was Ecclesiastes 3:1-8.

Esther was a devoted wife and mother and dearly loved her grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 12th at the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Hugo, Oklahoma. Graveside services were at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Athens, Texas.

Pallbearers were Dan Estep, Ryan Johnson, Mark Tidwell, Rickey Loftis, David Johnson, Jarrod Pillans and honorary pallbearer John Russell Tidwell.

Arrangements were handled by Miller and Miller Funeral Home in Hugo, Oklahoma.
