KENNETH (BUD) OLSON
(2/28/1930 - 10/7/2011)



Bud Olson, 81, of Las Vegas, NV, passed away October 7, 2011 in his home with his family by his side after a short battle with cancer.

He was born in Scotland County near Gorin, MO on February 28, 1930 to Carl and Opal (Couch) Olson. Bud graduated from Wyaconda High School in May 1947. He went to work as a depot agent for ATSF railway until 1968. Bud then worked for The Daily Racing Forum as Director of Communication retiring in 1993. He had never missed a paycheck since starting work in May 1947. He moved to Las Vegas, NV shortly after retirement.

Bud married Ruth Lemmon in 1949 and to this union twins were born, Janet and Joyce. Bud and Ruth were divorced and he married Rita Brand in Memphis, MO in June 1961. They celebrated their fiftieth anniversary with their children. Bud enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and have barbecues with his family, friends and neighbors. Bud and Rita enjoyed golfing and traveling together.

He is survived by his wife, Rita of the home, three daughters, Robin of Byron, TX, Joyce (Bill) McDonald of East Lake, Ohio and Janet (Mark) Manly of San Demas, CA. He had four grandchildren; three grandsons, Larry of Tucson, AZ, Mike of San Demas, CA, and Brett of Washington, DC and one granddaughter, Lara of Bryon, TX, sister Pat (Orva) West of Memphis, MO, nephew Doug (Tracy) Jones of Quincy, IA, and one niece Deb Barker and Al Ward of Bonaparte, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Cheryl, grandson in infancy and sister, Mary F. Olson.

Visitation was held at the Palm Northwest Mortuary on October 12, 2011 and services were held on October 13. He was laid to rest in the Eternal Life Garden at Palm Northwest, Las Vegas, NV.
