JV Girls Beat Rams, Lose to Eagles

The Scotland County junior varsity girls basketball team split a pair of games last week. SCR-I fell to Knox County 39-26 on January 4th before rebounding to beat Schuyler County 41-18 two nights later.

Knox County jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the first period before SCR-I got things rolling on offense. Katie Howard hit a three pointer and scored five of the 10 second-quarter points for the Lady Tigers who trailed 19-14 at the break.

But the lady Eagles went on a 10-4 run in the third period to expand the lead and held on for the 39-26 win.

SCR-I was led in scoring by Howard and Megan Creek, each with seven points while Jessica Morrow had five points.

Scotland County blanked the Rams in the opening period and added to the margin each quarter en route to the easy victory.

The Lady Tigers pounded the ball inside in the opening frame as forwards Hailie Stone, Bethany Rader and Megan Creek accounted for all seven first quarter points.

Shaye Wright scored four points in the second quarter as SCR-I expanded the halftime lead to 15-6.

Scotland County blew the game open with an 18-point third period outburst that featured three pointers from Howard and Hailey Dial as well as six points from Creek.

Scotland County was led in scoring by Creek with nine points. Rader finished with eight points and Howard added seven.
