Big Third Period Helps Tigers Claim Consolation Game

Scotland County recovered from a slow start to overcome Atlanta 56-49 Friday night at the North Shelby Tournament and claim the consolation trophy.

SCR-I fell behind Atlanta 15-7 in the first period as the Tigers managed just three field goals in the game's first eight minutes.

Harley Stone matched that total himself in the second period, hitting his second three pointer of the evening. He had seven points and Sabe Sears added a couple of field goals to help the Tigers trim the deficit to 23-18 at half time.

The rally came full circle in the third quarter, when the Tigers exploded for 20 points to pull ahead 38-32. Dakota Wells hit a pair of three pointers during the key stretch and Kasey Dial had seven points as the two guards keyed the 20-point outburst.

Atlanta's Travis Miller kept the Hornets in the contest, scoring nine points in the fourth quarter. But the Tigers were able to get clutch free throws from Sears and Brock Bondurant to help seal the 56-49 victory.

SCR-I (6-7) used a balanced scoring attack to win their second straight game. Stone led the way with 16 points before fouling out late in the game. Dial added 11 points and Wells finished with 10 points while Sears added eight points.

Miller led Atlanta in scoring with 16 points.
