Wells Big Night Not Enough For SCR-I in 65-49 Loss to Canton

Scotland County simply could not go to the well enough on Tuesday night. Senior Dakota Wells caught fire in the second period to erase a double digit deficit for the Tigers but Canton rallied late to knock off Scotland County 65-49.

Canton built an 18-7 advantage in the first quarter. Harley Stone had five of the Tigers first seven points, but Canton shut down the rest of the team to jump out to the early lead.

The Tigers went to Wells in the second period and the senior responded, connecting on four, three pointers. The team got field goals from Kasey Dial and Andrew Mathes as well as a pair of free throws by Brock Bondurant that helped trim the deficit to 30-25 at the half.

Dial and Mathes combined for nine of the Tigers 12 points in the third period, but Canton was able to extend the lead to 46-37.

Cordie Kigar came off the bench to hit a three pointer but the rest of the Tigers were cold from behind the arc down the stretch. Canton put the game away at the free throw line, making seven of nine from the charity stripe in the final minutes to seal the 65-49 victory.

Wells finished with a career high 18 points to lead Scotland County (8-9) in scoring. Dial had nine points and Stone and Mathes each finished with seven points. Canton (13-5) was led in scoring by Nick Janney and Colt Carper who both scored 18 points on the night.
