Junior High Campus Bowl Teams Compete in North Shelby Tourney

The 7th and 8th grade Campus Bowl teams participated in the North Shelby tournament on Saturday, February 12th. Rachel Duzan ended the day with a total of 20 toss-up questions and earned a spot on the 8th grade All-Tournament team. The 8th grade team is made up of Rachel Duzan, Renay Friendshuh, Tristen Hilpert, and Joshua Gerber. The 7th grade team is made up of Sophia Hoskinson, Morgan Alexander, and Megan Kice.

The day began with the 7th grade team playing Palmyra. The match ended in a close score with Palmyra coming out on top. The final score was 140-120. Morgan was the top scorer in that match with a total of five toss-ups. The 8th grade match against Palmyra proved more difficult for Scotland County. The final score of that game was 90-230. Rachel and Renay tied for top scorers in that game with a total of two toss-ups each.

The 7th grade team's second game against Highland also ended in a close score but Highland also came out victorious. The final score of that match was 150-190. Sophia was the top scorer in that game with a total of five toss-ups. Once again, the 8th grade team struggled against the 8th grade Highland team. The final score of their second game was 130-190. Rachel was the top scorer with a total of four toss-ups followed closely by Renay who had three toss-ups.

The 7th grade team's final game ended in a very close victory. The team played Monroe City and the final score was 100-90. Sophia and Morgan tied for top scorers of that game with a total of three toss-ups each. The 8th grade team followed suit and was able to defeat Monroe City 8th Grade by a score of 140-120. Rachel was again the top scorer with a total of six toss-ups in that game.

This win by the 8th grade team was enough to move them into the afternoon single-elimination round. In their first match, they had to once again face a very tough Palmyra team. Scotland County was defeated by a score of 100-210. Rachel was the high scorer with a total of eight toss-ups.

The 7th and 8th grade teams are coached by Mrs. Andrea Brassfield. The two teams will compete again on Friday, March 4th at Knox County's Tournament of the Minds.
