Midgets Ride Third Quarter Run to 66-51 Win Over Tigers

Three was the magic number on Tuesday night in Memphis. Unfortunately it proved unlucky for the Tigers, who fell to Putnam County 66-51 behind a big third quarter run by the Midgets.

Putnam County blew the contest open by outscoring SCR-I 19-8 in the third period.

The lead change was made in large part, due to three pointers. Putnam County connected on 10 three pointers while SCR-I made just one shot from behind the arc.

Early on, the lack of a perimeter attack didn't hold back the Tigers. Brock Bondurant scored Scotland County's first seven points and he and fellow post player Andrew Matches combined for all of the Tigers 11 points as SCR-I led 11-7.

The duo continued to play strong in the paint, scoring eight points in the second period.

But Putnam County came charging back as Blane Robinson and Brody Heidenwith each canned a pair of three pointers to help the Midgets pull ahead 28-26 at the break.

Heidenwith continued his hot shooting in the key third period run, scoring seven points as the Midgets built a 47-34 lead.

Dakota Wells hit the Tigers' lone three of the night in the fourth period. Mathes added six points but Heidenwith was the difference maker as he insured the 66-51 win with nine fourth-quarter points.

The loss dropped SCR-I to 11-11 and 5-4 in the Tri-Rivers Conference. Mathes finished with 20 points to pace the offense. Bondurant added 13 points and Sabe Sears finished with nine points. Heidenwith led all scorers with 24 points for the Midgets. Blane Robinson added 12 points and Deion Hunt finished with 10 points.
