Shannan Named to All-Tourney Team at Monroe City Campus Bowl Contest
Scotland County's varsity campus bowl team participated in the Monroe City Tournament on Saturday February, 26th. In the morning round, Scotland County played two teams. Thomas Shannan, Chris Smeltser, and Brandon Monroe made up the White team while Joshua Keller, Augusta Purvis, and Emily Ebeling made up the Blue team.
The White team faced Centralia A in the first round. Thomas was the leading scorer of that game with a total of 7 toss-ups, followed by Chris with 5 toss-ups. Scotland White lost to Centralia with a score of 170-220. The Blue team faced North Shelby in their first round game. Joshua was the leading scorer of that game with a total of 7 toss-ups followed by Augusta who had 5 toss-ups. Scotland Blue lost a very close game with a final score of 180-170.
In the second round, Scotland White played Centralia's B team and won by a score of 200-80. Thomas was the lead scorer with a total of 8 toss-ups followed by Chris who had a total of 5 toss-ups. Scotland Blue faced Centralia A in their second game and lost by a score of 130-360. Joshua and Augusta tied for top scorers of that game with a total of 5 toss-ups each.
In the final game of the morning round, Scotland White and Scotland Blue faced one another. Scotland White was victorious with a score of 150-110. For the White team, Thomas was the high scorer with a total of 8 toss-ups and Joshua was the high scorer for the Blue team with a total of 6 toss-ups.
The Scotland County White team advanced into the afternoon round of play and at that point, they combined their two teams into one Scotland County team. They faced a very competitive Hannibal A team and lost with a score of 220-180. Thomas was the leading scorer in that game with a total of 5 toss-ups followed by Josh with a total of 3 toss-ups.
The 2nd afternoon game was a match-up between Scotland Co. and Clark A. This very exciting game went into overtime, but Scotland was able to come out victorious and won the game by a score of 250-240. The leading scorer of this game was Thomas with a total of 7 toss-ups followed by Chris with a total of 4 toss-ups.
The win over Clark County placed Scotland into the Consolation game. There, they faced a very tough N. Shelby team. Scotland lost that game by a score of 120-190. Joshua was the leading scorer with a total of 6 toss-ups followed by Augusta who answered 3 toss-ups.
During the morning round, Thomas answered a total of 23 toss-up questions which was enough to earn him a spot on the All Tournament team.
