Dominating Defense Has SCR-I Headed to District Title Game

They say defense wins championships, and on Thursday night Scotland County's stingy defense definitely paved the way for a shot at the title as the Lady Tigers held Milan to just eight first half points in a 54-31 victory in the Class 2 District 6 semifinals.

Aimee Dale put in six points in the first period and Ashley Tague had five points as SCR-I ran out to a 14-4 lead behind the strong play of its forwards.

The perimeter attack heated up in the second period as Skyler Alderton and Hailey Dial made shots from behind the arc. That fueled a 16-4 run that made the score 30-8 at the intermission.

Megan Creek and Ashley Tague combined for eight points in the third quarter as the lead grew to 43-18.

Milan outscored SCR-I 13-10 in the final period but it was not nearly enough.

Dale finished with 15 points to lead Scotland County in scoring. Tague had 12 points while Alderton finished with eight points and Dial added seven points.
