Golf Team Will Feature New Faces in 2011

The 2011 golf team will feature several new faces as well as a couple of familiar ones returning in new capacities.

The lone returning varsity golfer from the 2010 squad will be senior Kasey Dial. Dial along with graduate Brandon Garnett, qualified for the state golf tournament last season.

Gone from last year's team are Garnett and fellow graduates Jordon Fulk and Kyle Shelley.

A couple of familiar faces will be returning to the squad in coaching capacity. Superintendent Dave Shalley will be the team's head coach. Former state golf qualifier Mark Drummond will serve as the assistant coach and will lead the team when Shalley is unavailable.

Vying for spots on the varsity roster along with Dial will be Taylor Rader, Drew Miller, Andrew Mathes, Alex Curry, Dakota Elliott, Levi Woollums and Katie Miller.

Practice opened March 9th with the team set to open match play on March 29th in La Plata. The first home meet is scheduled for March 31st against Putnam County at Timber Ridge Golf Course.

"So far the weather has cooperated fairly well," Shalley said of pre-season practice. "There has been just be one day we haven't been on the course. It was a bit chilly at times, but we've been able to get our work in."
