Tigers Tackle Tough Competition at Annual Schuyler Summer Shootout

By Brock Bondurant

The Scotland County R-1 boys' basketball team participated last week in the annual Schuyler County Shootout. The varsity team played a total of 14 games Monday through Thursday, going 7-7. Despite the mediocre record, the Tigers put on some good performances, showing signs of promise and potential. Nearly all seven losses came at the hands of schools much bigger than that of SC. The Tigers went toe-to-toe with them all and improved as a group as the week drew closer to an end. The junior varsity team also played a few games in the shootout as well. The younger squad's week was highlighted on the final day with a last second, come-from-behind victory over Clark County's JV squad.

Returning on the varsity squad for the 2011-2012 season will be Seniors Derrick Muntz, Harley Stone, Andrew Mathes, Brock Bondurant, and Drew Miller; Junior Zach Miller and Sophomore Cordie Kigar. Sophomore Chris Jackson and Freshman Jacob Blessing also saw some varsity minutes, rounding out the varsity team. Lance Campbell will return to lead the Tigers for his fourth season as head coach with third year assistant Andy Mallett coaching the junior varsity team.
