Shannan Named to Missouri Class 2 All-State Baseball Team



The 2011 Missouri baseball season is officially in the books after the All-State selections were announced on Wednesday.

Tigers hurler Ben Shannan became the first player in school history to be recognized as one of the best in Missouri. Shannan was named to the Class 2 Second Team by the Missouri Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association.

The junior posted a 7-2 record with a 1.14 ERA. He allowed only 9 earned runs in 55 innings of work. Shannan surrendered just 28 hits while walking 27 batters. He recorded 82 strikeouts en route to throwing a no hitter and two shutouts.

Named to the Class 2 All-State First Team were pitchers Andrew Bader, sr., Valle Catholic; Robbe Ewing, sr., Stockton; James Naile, sr., Charleston; and Alex Winkelman, jr., Crystal City. Joining Shannan on the second team were hurlers Logan Morris, sr., Clearwater; Jordan Noirfalise, sr., Cabool; and Matt Verschelden, jr., Summit Christian.

The remainder of the Class 2 all-state first team included:

catchers Eli Bowers, sr., Dixon and Tanner Murphy, so., Malden; infielders Nick Andriano, sr., Mid-Buchanan, Blake Besancenaz, sr., Barat Academy, Spencer Sander, sr., Saxony Lutheran, Brett Shuh, sr., Valle Catholic, Chris Wiseman, sr., and Independence St. Mary's; outfielders Aaron Bedsworth, sr., New Bloomfield, Adrian Davis, sr., Van-Far, Christian Robbins, sr., Mid-Buchanan, and Tyler Rusk, sr., Cole Camp; utility players Jordan Eckley, sr., Barstow, Austin Holmes, sr., Cabool, and Kevin Martin, sr., Stockton,

Named to the second team all state were:

catchers Konrad Kemper, jr., South Callaway and Chance Wolfe, so., Clever, infielders Shayne Barton, jr., Plato, Levi Cook, sr., Crane, Zachary Rehagen, sr., New Bloomfield, Nick Shiplett, sr., Dixon, and Austin Springer, sr., Salisbury; outfielders Brenden Bailey, jr., New Bloomfield, Nolan Carrow, sr., Valle Catholic, Austin Schreck, sr., Barat Academy, and Buck Walker, sr., Stockton; and utility players Tyler Hunt, sr., Westran, Jonathan Palmer, sr., Fayette, and Tyler Ligon, sr., Elsberry.
