Lady Tigers Bash Brashear 8-3 for Softball Win

Cali Holt fields the ground ball to second base.

A huge third inning helped Scotland County improve to 2-0 on the season with an 8-3 victory on August 23rd in Brashear.

The Lady Tigers jumped on top 2-0 in the top of the first inning. Randi Slaughter singled and scored when Bethany Rader reached on an error. She crossed the plate when Loren Smith reached on an error.

Brashear came right back to tie the contest with two runs in the bottom of the frame. The first four batters reached base against Rader, before she settled down to strike out the side.

SCR-I broke the game open in the third inning, sending 10 batters to the plate. Megan Creek led off with a base hit. After Slaughter also singled, Rader drove in both runners with a double. She scored on an RBI ground out by Brianna Priebe that made the score 5-2. Smith and Dial followed with base hits. RBI singles from Cali Holt and Elizabeth Duzan pushed the lead to 7-2.

The Lady Tigers tacked on an insurance run in the fourth inning. Slaughter singled and scored to make it 8-2.

Rader held Brashear at bay until the fifth inning when she allowed a solo home run.

On the night, she held Brashear to three runs on four hits and two walks. She struck out nine over seven innings of work. She was effective all night keeping the ball down, recording nine of the 10 putouts on groundballs. The Lady Tigers played solid defense behind her as well, committing just one error on the night.
