SCR-I Advances to Championship Game With 13-0 Win Over Kirksville



Loren Smith fields the bunt and fires the throw to first base during the Lady Tigers semifinals contest versus Kirksville at the Knox County Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

After a slow start at the plate, the Scotland County bats came to life in the semifinals of the Knox County Tournament allowing the Lady Tigers to dispatch the Kirksville junior varsity by a final margin of 13-0.

SCR-I finally broke through in the third inning. Megan Creek reached on a fielder's choice. She stole second and third base and came into score on an infield single by Bethany Rader to make it 1-0.

Catcher Loren Smith kept the Lady Tigers shutout in tack with a diving catch on a foul pop out that stranded a runner in scoring position.

Elizabeth Duzan delivered an RBI triple in the fourth inning to plate Katie Howard who had walked, making the score 2-0.

The lady Tigers gave starter Megan Creek some breathing room with four more runs in the fifth inning.

Randi Slaughter singled and scored on a base hit by Brianna Priebe. After Howard was hit by a pitch, Shaye Wright cracked a two run double. She scored when Courtney Jackson reached on an error, pushing the lead to 6-0.

The Lady Tigers put the punctuation on the contest in the top of the sixth inning, sending 12 batters to the plate and cranking out seven hits en route to a 13-0 lead.

Priebe had a perfect 4-4 game at the plate, driving in three runs. Smith was 2-4 with a triple and Duzan was 2-3 with a triple. Wright went 2-4 with a double and two RBI. Seven different Lady Tigers recorded at least two hits in the contest.

Creek improved to 4-0 on the season on the mound. She completed the six inning shutout by allowing just three hits and walking none. The junior stroke out seven batters.

The win makes Scotland County 6-0 on the season.
