Scotland County Junior High Softball Team Concludes Season



Abi Feeney fires the throw to first base to nab the Putnam County hitter after making a diving stop at second base during junior high softball action earlier this season.

The Scotland County junior high softball team concluded the season with a 2-8 record. The season finale was October 4th in Kahoka.

The Lady Tigers opened the year with a 5-0 loss to Schuyler County. Miranda Holland took the loss on the mound despite striking out six batters.

Knox County topped SCR-I 10-6 on September 13th in Edina. Chelsea Wood was 1-1 with a double and Paige Hyde went 1-2 with a double. Sophia Hoskinson also was 1-1 with a walk.

The team traveled to Lancaster on Saturday, September 17th for a tournament. The Lady Tigers lost the opener 6-0 to the host squad. The team rallied for its first win of the year, knocking off Macon 10-6 in the consolation semifinals. Hyde was 3-3 at the plate. Maddie Brassfield went 2-4 and Karrisa Adams and Avery Whitaker each went 1-2 with the bat.

Brookfield bested Scotland County 7-5 in the consolation finals. Brassfield and Holland both went 2-3 at the plate in the losing effort.

Milan visited Memphis on September 20th and left with a 9-7 victory. Brassfield was a perfect 3-3 with the bat. Abi Feeney went 2-3 with two runs scored and Hyde was 2-3 with a triple. Holland struck out seven on the mound.

Two days later, the Lady Tigers hosted Putnam County and the Midgets prevailed 14-2. Holland led the offense with a pair of hits.

SCR-I got back into the win column with a 17-3 victory at Shelbyville. Feeney was 2-2 with three runs scored. Holland was 2-2 with a double and a triple and Kyndal Miller was 1-2 at the plate.

Scotland County closed out the year with a 19-2 loss to Canton followed by a 17-0 defeat at Kahoka. Wood delivered the lone highlight in the Canton contest with a home run.
