SCR-I Wins Dual Between Tigers in Tourney Opener

In a battle between a pair of Tigers it was the cats from Scotland County that came out on top with a 54-31 victory to advance into the semifinals of the Novinger Tournament by defeating Brashear.

SCR-I built a 12-9 lead in the first period behind a pair of scores by Derrick Muntz. Andrew Mathes and Brock Bondurant added buckets to push the Tigers out to the early lead.

Brashear's Hayden Housman accounted for all seven of Brashear's second period points but SCR-I still extended the margin to 27-16 at the break. Muntz had three field goals as Brashear didn't have an answer for the power senior forward in the paint. Cordie Kigar knocked down a three pointer and Bondurant and Harley Stone converted field goals as Scotland County outscored Brashear 15-7 in the second quarter.

Housman and Muntz continued to do the bulk of their teams' scoring in the third period. Housman had seven of Brashear's nine points while Muntz was a perfect four of four from the free throw line, scoring eight third quarter points. Stone added a pair of buckets to push the Tigers' lead to 39-25.

The fourth quarter was all Scotland County. SCR-I ended the contest on a 15-6 run to post the 54-31 win. Brice Cowell had five points down the stretch as SCR-I pushed on to the winner's bracket.

Muntz led all scorers in the contest with 22 points. Housman finished with 21 points to lead Brashear. Stone added 10 points for SCR-I (2-0) and Cowell finished with seven points.
